Beneath This Moor
“Beneath This Moor”, 2024 is a book project and series that explores folktales of Dartmoor. The work is an amalgamation of documentary and performative practices, exploring tales of witches, the Devil, and ritual. What underlines these stories are narratives of fear, persecution, and fading memories from an ancient past. Unearthed are conflict between religions and the enforcement of patriarchal values.
The project seeks to highlight Dartmoor’s spirituality, its isolating landscape evoking a complex sense of awe and dread. This presence and experience are asserted throughout the work, explaining the unique richness of folklore which Dartmoor preserves.
